David McDevitt- Program Director/Head Coach Coach David joined ASL in the fall of 2003 and is the coach of Group 1.  David is an American Swimming Coaches Association Level 5 Certified Coach.  This puts him in the Top 2-3% of all American coaches.  He is involved with the team's administrative work including being the team's webmaster and assists on all levels of the team where needed.  Prior to ASL he was Head Swimming Coach at the Naval Academy Aquatic Club, where his team grew from 135 members to 250 within two years.  Coach David has coached Olympic Trial Finalist, NCAA Champions, Numerous Senior & Junior National Qualifiers, as well as Top 16 swimmers.  David graduated from Ursinus College in PA with a degree in Human Performance, then obtained his Master's Degree the following year at Ohio University in Sport Science - Coaching.  While at Ursinus, David swam three years, earning the Most Dedicated award twice.  His swimming career ended with a nerve injury his Junior year, and went into coaching.  While obtaining his Master's degree in Sport Science, he was an assistant with the Ohio University Swimming Teams, which won the Mid-American Conference Championships and was ranked in the top 20.  Coach David is married to Roberta, and the couple have a new baby girl - Elizabeth.

kristentop.jpg (11868 bytes) Kristen Schlegel--Head Age Group Coach--Aiken  An ASL alum, Kristen is the head age group coach at USCA.   She coordinates the planning for Groups 2, 3, and 4 at USCA.   Kristen has been coaching for over 10 years and is in her 6th year with ASL.  She consistently produces some of the fastest swimmers in the state.  In 2001, she was selected to be a part of the championship GA Zone Team coaching staff that brought Georgia a zone title.   She also coaches the Fermata Swim Team during the summers, and led them  to a CSRA Championship title the summer of 2001.   She began coaching ASL immediately after her University of Maryland graduation.   At Maryland, she lettered four years as a member of swim team and was team captain for two years.  Kristen was a ACC Championship finalist three years in a row.  Her specialties were the IM and Breaststroke.  Kristen is married to her husband, Jason, and now has one child, James.

 Carey Hanlin--Age Group Assistant Coach--Aiken   Carey began swimming for ASL at the age of eight.  Now, many years later, he is starting his fourth year of coaching for ASL in Aiken.  He is the primary Masters coach as well as an assistant for Groups 2, 3, & 4.  Carey, a certified USA Swimming Coach and Masters Coach, is also a coach at Fermata Swim Club during the summers.  He is a senior at USCA studying business.

Diane Yelvington--Age Group Assistant Coach--Augusta Diane has returned to coaching after taking time off to raise 3 girls. She swam through college as a scholarship athlete. She was the first woman All-American in any sport at the University of Iowa.  She has coached summer league, private and public high school, summer swim camps and been both an assistant and head coach of USS swim teams. She was a named a Zone Coach (up north) and the Prairie State Games (IL) Coach.  She has taught and coached swimmers of all caliber. She was Edward Moses' (Olympic Gold Medalist) first winter swim coach. Hey, he didn't jump to soccer:-)  She also is the sister of former world record holder in the 50M free ,Tom Jager, 3 time Olympian.  She has coached in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Florida. She is certified USA Swimming coach and is starting her second year coaching Group 4.

Mrs. Greely--Age Group Assistant Coach--Augusta ASL is happy to have Mrs. Greely back involved with the program.  She has coached on and off for  many years with ASL.  Now she is working with Group 4 in Augusta.  As an avid athlete herself, she uses her expertise to develop young swimmers and thoroughly enjoys her work.    Mrs. Greely is a USA Swimming Certified Coach.

 

 

Gary Mauks--Age Group Assistant Coach--Aiken  Gary moved to Aiken  last year from New York (temporarily retired), where he was a head group USS coach and coached Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) college men and women's team. He has over 30 years of coaching experience with all age levels and several different programs. He has coached all levels from beginning to Olympic swimmers and will be working with Groups 3 and 4 in Aiken.

Julie Lamback--Age Group Assistant Coach--Augusta Julie has swam for ASL for many years and is entering her freshman year at ASU.  She has proven to be a good coach at Springlakes and looks forward to working with Group 2 and 3.  More to come...

Laura Summerlin--Age Group Assistant Coach--Augusta This will be Laura's first year with ASL.  She joins us from being the Aquatic Director at PRC and has her Water Safety Instructor Certification, Lifeguard Instructor Certification along with many other aquatic certifications.  She has coached competitive swimming in Asheville and Columbia before coming to Augusta.  More to come. . .
